Montalcino is 560 m above at sea level, in a splendid area of Sienese Tuscany at 110 Km from Florence, 35 Km from Siena, 50 Km from Arezzo, 200 Km from Rome .... and at few Km from many historical and artistic little towns (Pienza, Montepulciano, Cortona, etc.).
In July the temperature ranges normally between 20 to 30C. Hours of daylight are approximately 05.00 - 21.30 hours.

TRAVELLING TO MONTALCINO
BY AIR: You can fly to Pisa, Florence, Rome or Milan. Pisa and Florence are closer than Rome and Milan. Then, you can go to Montalcino by train, bus or car.
BY TRAIN: This is not the fastest way to go to Montalcino. There are 4 direct trains from Florence to BUONCONVENTO, the closest train station to Montalcino (10 Km). All other trains from Florence to Sienna, stop at Empoli where you must change trains, and then get off at Sienna and take a bus to Montalcino. The best way of public transportation to go to Montalcino is by bus. You can take it from Florence or Sienna. You can take a BUS from Florence to Sienna, by catching it near the train station in Florence, where there are frequent and fast buses. In Sienna there is an easy connection to Montalcino.
BY ROAD: this is the fastest way to go to Montalcino from Florence, Sienna and Rome, and it is the best way to tour. There is NO NEED for a car during the conference and while in Montalcino.
From Florence: by highway to Sienna (exit: Sienna Sud, to SS2 - ROMA ) ; from Sienna: by road "SS 2" to Monteroni, Buonconvento. After Buonconvento, you must turn right, to Montalcino.
From Rome: by highway A1, exit: VALDICHIANA (168 km), then go to Sinalunga, Trequanda, Montisi, San Giovanni d'Asso, Torrenieri, Montalcino (40 km)
BANKS and CURRENCY EXCHANGE
Banks in Montalcino are open from 8,20 AM to 1,20 PM and from 2,45 PM to 3,45 PM Monday to Friday. They are NOT open on Saturday or Sunday. Payment by credit card is widely accepted throughout Tuscany and Italy. You can exchange currency upon your arrival at any bank and you can draw Lire directly from any distributor using your international credit card (VISA, EUROCARD, MASTERCARD, etc.).
